During Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20th, marijuana advocates plan to pass out and light up 4,200 joints. Supporters will gather at 8 a.m. on the west side of Dupont Circle. From there, the group, organized by DCMJ, will walk to the National Mall to light up.
Lighting the joints will take place at 4 minutes and 20 seconds into president-elect Trump’s inaugural speech, according to The New York Times. DCMJ founder Adam Eidinger says they’re not breaking any laws as long as they light up on D.C. property. But, if they step onto federal land, offenders risk getting arrested.
The “smoke out” is in an effort to show the federal government that the American people, at least the majority (60% according to recent polls), support legalizing recreational marijuana.
