Revenue up 50% After Hotel Goes Marijuana-Friendly

Palm Springs Marijuana

Just outside of Palm Springs, California is Desert Hot Springs Inn, a hotel that hoped to boost revenue by becoming marijuana-friendly.

The boutique-style hotel has existed for 61 years, but since converting to a marijuana-friendly hotel revenue has increased 50%, reports Forbes. Rebranding to marijuana consumers seemed to be the appropriate move since marijuana is becoming more mainstream in California (and nationwide).

When seeking out the proper permitting to allow marijuana use on the property, the inn’s owners were told there were no special permits needed. Innkeeper John Thatcher said that “consumption on private property is not illegal. You don’t have a permit that you need.”

Desert Hot Springs Inn just happens to be on private property because it is more of a bed and breakfast type of establishment than an actual hotel.

Guests, no matter where in the world they come from, are allowed to consume marijuana anywhere on the property. Although the establishment cannot sell marijuana, guests can purchase from dispensaries nearby.

The hotel says that a majority of its guests are Baby Boomers that enjoy relaxing in the desert sun.

“A lot of them have medical issues,” said Thatcher. “They come to soak in the hot mineral waters and have a CBD oil massage. It’s like a pain management system.”
