77,000 Transactions for $3.2M of Marijuana Sold in Illinois on 1st Day

Illinois

On the first day of legal recreational marijuana sales in Illinois the state reported more than 77,000 transactions that totaled to more totaling $3.17 million.

Due to cold weather, some dispensaries worked with restaurants to create a paging system so that customers had somewhere warm to wait nearby, NBC Chicago reported.

“As we start a new decade, Illinois has achieved a monumental milestone launching the legalization of cannabis in a way that includes communities left behind for far too long, creates good jobs and expunges thousands of records for those who have lost out on opportunities and ends prohibition,” said an adviser to the governor.

Illinois resident Arnold Winslow has plans to frame his first legally purchased marijuana gram to “have a memento.”

“I wanted to be first in line because I have waited 46 years for this moment,” Arnold said.
