Medical experts say that marijuana suppositories are more effective than smoking or vaporizing, according to a new article in Canada’s National Post. The experts say that more of the compounds in marijuana are absorbed via the rectum, and that women can benefit from using marijuana suppositories during their menstrual cycles.
Tommy Chong used marijuana suppositories as part of his prostate cancer treatment, according to SF Gate. One expert speculates that smoking marijuana may become less popular with the introduction of marijuana suppositories. Although the thought of a suppository is off-putting to many, evidence has proven its effectiveness, as Dr. Mikhail Kogan, Medical Director of the Center for Integrative Medicine stated: “Rectally is actually a lot more preferred because of the volume of absorption. You can put a lot more and it gets absorbed a lot better, but not everybody is open to this way of administration.”
Kogan also said, “We have so many other products now, so many modes of delivery, that smoking in my opinion is very archaic and has very little clinical applicability. Having said that, I think that probably the majority of people still smoke it because it’s the most available method.”
