Microdosing is the practice of using smaller amounts of marijuana numerous times throughout the day. Typical doses are between 3mg and 10mg.

Less can be more when using marijuana for its medicinal benefits, Salon reports. Although, a small dose may be enough for one person but not enough for another. Finding the perfect balance lets marijuana users maintain productivity and have relief from symptoms.

Dr. Duston Sulak practices in Maine and has worked with medical marijuana patients for 8 years. He’s created a microdosing system that helps patients find the right amount.

Dr. Sulak said, “Abstain from cannabis for two days. On day three, consume one milligram of THC and one milligram of CBD, preferably in a tincture or oil where they can be measured precisely. Before consuming, ask yourself three questions, and answer on a scale of one to 10: How easy is it to breathe, how comfortable and calm does your body feel and how easy is it for you to smile authentically, to feel content and grateful?”

Dr. Sulak says that if you need more relief, increase by a single milligram. He said, “You repeat this process over the next few days, increasing the dose by small increments. When you reach a point where you feel a difference after consuming, you’ve found your minimal effective dose.”

Regardless of tolerance, a 48-hour break from marijuana helps reset the body’s tolerance.

Doctors believe that finding an optimal “minimum effective dose” is ideal for treating patients.
