The Major Differences Between Marijuana Strains

Marijuana Strains

Many people are unaware that there are different types of marijuana strains and that each provides unique effects. It is important to be educated about the different strain types to know the best option for each person’s personal preference and/or medical condition(s). Simply picking a marijuana strain based upon its name, scent or recommendation may not provide the desired effects.

Sativa marijuana strains provide cerebral effects for the most part. Some strains do also come with some body high effects. Sativa strains are ideal for daytime use as they are known for promoting energy and an uplifting effect. These strains are also more likely to help with focus.

With a sativa strain, you are more likely to get up and clean the house or take care of other chores. It is more of a euphoric type of psychoactive effect, or “high,” that promotes happy feelings. Sativa are ideal for depression and fatigue.

Popular Sativas: Sour Diesel, Green Crack, Strawberry Cough

Indica strains typically provide more of a body high. Indicas essentially calm and help with pain, sleep issues and anxiety, to name a few conditions. The munchies and couch-lock are common with indicia strains. Cottonmouth is also common with this strain type.

Popular Indicas: LA Confidential, Northern Lights, Grandaddy Purple

Hybrid strains are a combination of sativa and indica; depending on the parent plants, either sativa or indica effects will be dominant. It is important to pay attention to the dominant strain factor so that you don’t end up with a calming strain when you need energy, and vice versa.  Some hybrid strains are 50/50, which typically provide an even blend of cerebral and body high effects.

Popular Hybrids: Blue Dream, OG Kush, Girl Scout Cookies
