Buffalo Mayor Orders Police to Not Enforce Low-Level Marijuana Offenses

Smoking Marijuana

Byron Brown, the mayor of Buffalo, New York, has ordered Buffalo’s Police Department to no longer enforce low-level marijuana offenses in the city.

If caught with marijuana, police will likely not give a penalty and instead dispose of the marijuana, WKBW.com reports.

“As legalization appears to be on the horizon, we do have to look at new alternatives to addressing the issue where it is causing a quality of life concern for other residents in the city,” said Buffalo Police Captain, Jeff Rinaldo.

Rinaldo said he’ll clarify what “low level” means in the coming weeks, but that it does refer to smaller personal amounts such as a couple joints.
