Cannabis-Infused Vodka Now Available in Some States

Marijuana Vodka

Humboldt Distillery, in Humboldt County, California, has announced Humboldt’s Finest, their new cannabis-infused vodka. The vodka contains no THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, and is currently for sale in California and Colorado. Humboldt Distillery prides itself on creating award-winning organic vodka and spiced rum.

Consumers asked Humboldt Distillery for cannabis-infused vodka and the distillery was challenged to figure out a way to legally include cannabis in their alcohol, according to North Coast Journal.  The seeds used to infuse the spirit are from sativa strains. Upon opening the bottle of vodka, which will sell for around $30 per bottle, is the beautiful aroma of marijuana.

In a press release from Humboldt Distillery, the owner Abe Stevens, says, “We’ve been selling our original Organic Vodka for more than two year now. As the vodka has grown in popularity I’ve found more and more consumers asking us to add some of the ‘local flavor’ to our alcohol. That obviously wouldn’t be legal for us to do, but I couldn’t ignore the consumer demand. My solution was to come up with a compromise that captures a bit of that character without breaking any laws.”

Only local, legally-grown cannabis plants are used for the vodka. By law, food-grade hemp (cannabis) must contain less than 0.3-percent THC to be considered legal for use in food and other products.

Upon tasting the vodka, consumers will identify the herbal flavor of marijuana. No mind-altering or psychoactive effects will be expected, just the typical effects of alcohol consumption. The distillery also uses domestic organic cane sugar for their products, which are all gluten-free.
