Former Alaska TV news reporter Charlo Greene became a viral sensation overnight for dramatically quitting her job on air – by saying “F*ck it, I quit” – and abruptly walking off camera in 2014. Greene quit her career to become a full-time marijuana legalization advocate and entrepreneur.
Soon after, she revealed that she owned Alaska Cannabis Club, according to The Guardian. The establishment operated in a legal gray area. But, before long, Alaska law enforcement was conducting undercover operations and raids of her business.
Greene is now being charged with multiple felonies. She was originally facing eight charges, but is now facing 14 charges, which could land her in prison for up to 54 years if convicted.
In an interview, Greene said, “It’s almost dizzying when you try to make sense of it. It could literally cost me the rest of my adult life.”
Controversy surrounds Greene’s trial as more states are moving to legalize recreational marijuana. Attention was given to her unique way of quitting her job, but not much attention has been given to her pending criminal case. She has been a supporter of legalizing marijuana since her college days when she says she discovered that marijuana is safer than alcohol.
Greene’s court dates have not been released.
