Idaho Governor Asks Trump to Enforce Federal Marijuana Laws on All States

Governor Otter wrote a letter to President Trump requesting a crackdown on states with “liberal marijuana laws.” Some believe it is a contradiction to his intense support of states’ rights. Otter begs to differ and says his request is not a contradiction.

Otter stated that his request comes from concerns for Idaho and its residents regarding the availability of marijuana in surrounding states because he finds it to be a concern for criminal and public health issues, according to KIVI 6 News.

Otter said that the location of Idaho in proximity to California, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon and Washington makes Idaho an “island of compliance” in terms of federal marijuana regulations.

Otter said, “I also have a very firm belief and value in the rule of the law. We actually fought a civil war over whether states could do certain things outside the legal structure of this country. I don’t think it’s out of character for me as a states rightist, a 10th Amendment person, to say enforce the law.”
